THE BASIC DATA of ROSTOV MUNICIPAL DISTRICT

Rostov the Great is located on a motorway of federal value and on a trunk-railway Moscow - Vladivostok. The distance from Moscow makes 200 klms, from Yaroslavl - 60 klms. The distance from Rostov up to the nearest old Russian cities (from the point of view of development of tourist routes) makes: Sergiev Posad - 140 klms, Pereslavl - Zalessky - 70 klms, Uglich - 90 klms, Kostroma - 140 klms, Vladimir - 180 klms, Suzdal - 150 klms. The distance up to Saint Petersburg (through Moscow) is about 900 klms. Rather central arrangement of city in system of historical settlements of the center of Russia causes interest. The nearest international airports are in Moscow and Yaroslavl. The nearest passenger river ports on Volga are in Yaroslavl and Uglich.

Rostov is located at the coast of large Lake Nero (the area 54, 4 sq. klms, depth up to 3, 6 ì) which, in turn, is connected by system of the small rivers to Volga.

Climate of this territory is favorable, moderately continental. The average annual temperature of air - +3, 0-3, 3 C. Average temperature of January - -11,1C, July +18, 1 C. Mean value of deposits drop out -530-550 mm.

The territory of Rostov is not included into zones of ecological risk; the share of the polluted areas in town makes 11-21 %.

Rostov municipal district is located in the central part of Russia and it is a part of Yaroslavl region. The district is situated in southeast part of the region and borders in the north with Gavrilov-Yam, in the west - with Borisogleb, in the south - with Pereslavl municipal districts of the Yaroslavsky region, in the east - with Ivanovo region.

Area of RMD - 2,073 thousand sq. klms. (5, 7 % from all territory of the Yaroslavl region). The population of RMD is about 73, 5 thousand (5, 5 % from the population of the whole region), the population of the town - 36, 2 thousand.

The lake Nero is the largest reservoir of district and its fishery base. It richly unique with natural resource - sapropel (clayey substance without a smell, used for the various purposes ,for example, as the traditional organic fertilizer lifting fertility sails). Stocks of sapropel in our lake are estimated in 250 million tons.

In the territory of RMD the most ancient nature sanctuaries, cultures and histories of regional, all Russian and world value are located. Forest parks, ancient rural parks and a green zone of the town have an essential recreational potential. Wood resources have local industrial value. Wood and water resources are connected with vegetation and fauna. Reservoirs of district are rich in different species of birds. Lambs, deer, wild boars, foxes, hares and other animals are found in woods and fields. The riches of fauna form trade base for a hunting - fishing economy of district. You can find medicinal grasses and rare plants on the territory of the district.

The basic industries: food, exact instrument making, mechanical engineering, wood industry, manufacture of building materials.

The agricultural production specializes on cultivation of large horned livestock of a dairy direction, pigs and birds, cultivation of grain crops, potato and vegetables. The Rostov onions and green peas are exported for limits of area, marked by the Russian and international awards.
