'Shrovetide up to the Pike's Will' !

We invite you to our ancient town to take part in the unique tourist holiday 'Shrovetide up to the Pike's Will'! This holiday is holding on at the end of February or at the beginning of March, at the last day of pancake week.

In the program of a holiday: a concert of peals, a prize-winning column, celebratory procession of visitors and citizen of the town, the dramatized show with participation of creative collectives from our region, the game dramatized program, competition of fishers - fans, a youth disco, game program for children, burning of a scarecrow of the Pancake week. On this holiday you can taste hot pancakes and special Russian dish (uha), made of pike, drive on snow - storms, take part in different competitions and drive on horses. The program is created on the basis of Russian national legends, sated with national folklore.

Day of the town "Paints of fire"

At the end of August in Rostov the Great passes a traditional Day of the town "Paints of fire". During the celebration of this holiday different programs on various platforms work: town stadium "Spartak", town park, the Rostov Kremlin, the Cathedral area, water area of lake Nero, the house of creativity "Hors". In the program of a holiday: solemn opening, a congratulation of the citizen of the town, a congratulation of newly-married couples, the performance of winners of festival of creative collectives and separate artists "Paints of fire". Visitors of city suggest to visit an exhibition of production of enterprises of our town, an exhibition -sale of national products from our region. On this day tourists can see the performance of brass - bands of our region, the children's program and attractions in Town Park, performance of the best collectives of Rostov and visitors, a youth disco, you can sail in the lake Nero. There is a beautiful firework at night.

Festival of aeronautics "Golden Ring of Russia"

The festival of the hot air balloons, named "The Golden Ring of Russia" takes place in Rostov Veliky in summer, in the middle of July. About eighty participants from Russia, Ukraine, England and Netherlands come in Rostov. Every summer citizens of Rostov enjoy bright bouquet of hot air balloons which are risen in the air. Rostov sky blooms by colourful rainbow soaring in the clouds hot air balloons, giving citizens of Rostov pleasure and joy.

Holiday of "the Green cucumber"

Porechie is situated in 16 kilometers from Rostov and from old times it was considered as the native land of market - gardening on Rostov ground. In August in Porechie the traditional holiday of a green cucumber is holding on. The motto of the holiday is "To buy and sell, to show and look, to treat and taste, so have a good rest!".

This day people visit the museum of porechskiy market - gardener. There they can know about the history of Porechie, about old secrets of preparing of vitamins tea. They can treat tea on herbs, hear interesting stories about herbs which are grown in Porechie till nowadays.

For children interesting program "The journey around cucumbers country" is carried out. Adults with pleasure take part in cheerful competitions " Hand-made things from a cucumber ". Women actively participate in competition by pickling cucumbers. All people can taste fresh-salted cucumbers and decide which is the best. The exhibition of flowers, fruits and vegetables which were grown in Porechie amaze imagination of people by variety. Visitors of this holiday receive a lot of pleasant impressions and good mood due to hospitable and warm reception of inhabitants from Porechie.

Musical festival "Alive olden time"

Musical festival "Alive olden time" is an attempt to recreate the alive musical environment of old Russian city in which basis the deepest spiritual tradition laid.

The Rostov Kremlin, a monument of the 17-th century, is alive witness of cultural environment in which music had huge value. First of all it is church singing. In the 18-th century on change of traditional one-voice singing has come to three-voices. One of the creators of three-voices singing was Rostov metropolitan Varlaam (Vasily Rogov). It is possible to hear three-lower case singing in the program of the festival. The best Russian bell ringers visit the festival of Rostov bells. In medieval city widely there were various tools - a psaltery, hooters, pipes, etc. Hooters took the central place in Old Russian musical culture. It is the most widespread and favourite musical instrument of east Slavs. The most ancient musical toolkit during centuries has undergone significant changes. So psalteries now resemble the initial image a little. Some tools as hooter and lyre appeared lost at all.

At our festival it is possible to reconstruct the most ancient musical instruments and to hear their sounding and the singing of separate soloists.

Traditional Russian fair "Rostov souvenir"

The Rostov land can boast talented masters, who revive the mysteries of the ancient trades. Enamel, ceramics, woodcarving are popular with Russians and visitors from abroad. The Rostov people carefully preserve the rich cultural traditions and revive them in the folk holidays.
Traditionally at the end of the August (the Day of the city) in Rostov Kremlin passes the grandiose fair "Rostov souvenir". Masters from Ivanovo, Vladimir, Vologda, Kostroma, Moscow, as well as from cities of our area take part in the fair.

On the fair you can find a great variety of different beautiful souvenirs: enamel, ceramics, forged souvenirs, painting, graphics, lace, wickerwork from vine, thread and painting on tree, products from birch bark and so on. Everybody leaves our fair with a souvenir.
It is also possible to make the souvenir by your own hands. On traditions, the masters demonstrate the secrets of their creative activity, conduct the master-classes. Merry folk songs and dances create good mood for our guests.
